Sleeping less--Things that DONT work
- going to bed early just because someone says it'll mean you'll get up early
- taking naps in the day
- staying up all night
- changing my sleep patterns regularly
Why don't they work (for me, and the people I've spoken with)..
Going to bed early just because someone says it'll mean you'll get up early
Going to bed when you aren't tired, generally, doesn't work. If you are used to going to bed at midnight trying to get to sleep around 9.30pm, on day 1 of your 'get into good sleeping habits' won't work. The body needs to be relaxed, not forced into sleeping.
taking naps in the day
Taking naps means the body is out-of-synch for the end of the night, and generally you'll go to bed later. This can work if you want to cram for an exam, but for everyday living its generally not advisable.
staying up all night
Staying up all night, well that's not what my entries on better sleeping habits are about, so I'll leave this out. Staying up deprives the body of needed rest, enough said.
changing sleep patterns regularly
Changing patterns doesn't work as you are confusing the body. It needs routine. Timing is essential. Look at my other blog entries on sleep to find out the positives of good, healthy sleeping patterns.
